/PRNewswire/ Maze Row Wine Merchant announced today that it has been appointed the exclusive U.S. importer of Alto Adige s Girlan, effective immediately..
I recently traveled to Northern Italy to visit the Alto Adige wine region, also known as Sudtirol or South Tyrol, near the Swiss and Austrian borders at the foothills of the Dolomites. The Alto Adige is one of the smallest wine growing regions and has become one of the country’s TOP white wine regions. This unique Alpine landscape is ironically kissed by the hot Mediterranean sun in the Summer. Many of the vineyards are planted on hills and steep mountainsides, producing high altitude, fresh and aromatic wines.
Alto Adige is home to dramatic Alpine scenery and superb skiing, Mediterranean vegetation and sweltering summers – and wines that blend Germanic precision with Italian flair.

Albente 2019, Falanghina, Feudi di San Gregorio, Italy white, $14.30, SAQ # 14228356. Falanghina is fun to say, and even more fun to drink. I was happy to come across this wine again, as I loved it last time. Nothing has changed this is a blast. Very muscat-like, with dynamic fruit, flowers and lower acidity. Dry, textured and so easy to drink. This is becoming a go-to choice for under-$16 whites.
Grape variety: falanghina.
Serve at: 8-10 C.
$16-$20
Trentin Haut-Adige IGT 2019, 448 s.l.m., Cantina Girlan, Italy red, $19.90, SAQ # 14039395.Wonderful Beaujolais-style red. Makes me want a plate of charcuterie and cheese to snack on while emptying the bottle. Full of the juiciest red fruit, with a delicate mineral finish. There is a beauty to the simplicity here. Made entirely with vernaccia and aged in concrete. You can feel the cool mountain breeze and altitude in this wine.
