China’s new shipbuilding orders up 182.1% in first four months China’s newly received shipbuilding order volume for the period of January-April was 27.87m dwt, a 182.1% surge year-on-year. China’s shipbuilding output for the first four months was 12.81m dwt, an increase of 16.6%. As at the end of April, the orderbook on hand was 84.19m dwt, an increased of 4.5%, according to the statistics released by China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). Shipbuilding export volume was 12.07m dwt, an increase of 19.5% year-on-year, newly received export shipbuilding orders were 24.69m dwt, up 177%. Export orders on hand were 74.84m dwt as the end of April, a slight increase of 0.2%.

According to the statistics released by China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), China’s shipbuilding output for the first quarter was 9.79m dwt, an increase of 39.8%. As at the end of March, the orderbook on hand was 78.48m dwt, a drop of 1.4%.  Shipbuilding export volume was 9.09m dwt, an increase of 32.7% year-on-year, newly received export shipbuilding orders were 14.69m dwt, a substantial growth of 216.5%. Export orders on hand were 69.45m dwt as the end of March, a decline of 5.1%.

According to the statistics released by China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI), China’s shipbuilding output for January to November 2020 was 33.24m dwt, a decline of 2.6% year-on-year, while the volume of newly received orders was 22.52m dwt, down 8.7%. As at end-November, the orderbook on hand was 70.94m dwt, a drop of 11.1%. Shipbuilding export volume was at 30.03m dwt, a decrease of 5.8% year-on-year, while newly received export shipbuilding orders were 19.77m dwt, a decline of 13.5%. Export orders on hand were 65.12m dwt as the end of November, a drop of 11.3%. Shipbuilding export volume, new orders for export and export orders on hand accounted for 90.3%, 87.8% and 91.8% of national volume, respectively.

China’s Jan-Nov new vessel orders subside faster by 8.7% The new vessel orders received by Chinese shipbuilders declined 8.7% on year over January-November, with the decline quickening in pace from the 6.6% on-year fall over the first ten months, according to the latest release from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on December 18, and the lower backlog due to fewer new orders have been reflected in less steel demand too. In the first 11 months, new vessel orders totalled 22.5 million dead weight tons (dwt), among which 19.8 million dwt or 87.8% were exports, or down more substantially by 13.5% on year, according to the data. Over January-November, the Chinese shipbuilders completed vessels equivalent to 33.2 million dwt, down 2.6%.
