A Catholic bishop who supported Northern Ireland and counted goalkeeper Harry Gregg among his friends could have been a “special diplomat of peace and reconciliation during the reconstruction of Casement Park”, his funeral has been told.
A funeral mass for Belfast-born Bishop Anthony Farquhar was held on Thursday, attended by former students and the leaders of Ireland's four main churches. Serving as auxiliary Bishop for Down and Connor for 32 years, he was also known for his love of sport and positive influence on thousands of young people.
