At the onset of the HIV and AIDS pandemic in the 1980s in Jamaica, being HIV-positive was considered a death sentence, and the truth is that a number of people died in the early years of the pande.
The World Council of Churches (WCC), with support from UNAIDS, hosted a webinar in Uganda and Nigeria on 14 November under the theme ““Changing Hearts and Minds” against HIV stigma.
A “Framework for Dialogue” coordinated in Uganda by the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical HIV and AIDS Initiatives and Advocacy Programme and its partners has given rise to new activities and relationships that have the potential to reduce stigma related to HIV.
