One of my favorite things about wine is its power to connect us across a table or an ocean. In a time when faceless, corporate wineries have flooded the market with safe, bland, commercially acceptable offerings, there is something comforting about opening a bottle from a family-owned and operated estate. There is no need for the mysterious pay no attention to the man behind the curtain philosophy hiding unidentified vineyards and winemakers behind a slick label because there is no curtain. There are just Georges-Antoine Robert and his dog, wandering around Chateau du Gazin, the Bordeaux estate his family has owned for over 80 years.
