place. everyone doesn t have the same resource, support system as i was lucky to have. myself and a few others were able to take a visit to share our trauma with the parkland students. we let them knowing that we would support one another, and also realizing that without the proper resourceses this issue of violence will not be solved and we will not stop until we are properly resourced in our communities. so, family, continue the fight for what is right. and since we are family now, i would like to pass on one of the traditions that me and my family does at a northdale college prep. so when i do this, i ask you the follow me when i say repeat after me, and so it is this thing that we do to show unity at our high school. and unity is strength.
cannot drive out darkness. only light can do that. hate cannot drive out hate. only love can do that. which now leads me to say that violence cannot drive out violence. only peace can do that. poverty cannot drive out poverty, and only resources can do that. death cannott drive out death. only proactive life can do that. as i stand before you, i stand here for an 18-year-old dean ao mcdade from the west side of chicago and i, too, i am a survivor and victor of gun violence.
i come from the place where minorities are controlled by both violence and poverty leading us to be deterred by is success, and today, we say no more. i stand before you representing the body of those who have experience and lost their lives due to gun violence. for we are survivors. for i am a survivor. for we are survivors of not only gun violence, but of silence, and we are the survivors of the erratic productions of poverty, but not only that, we are the survivors of unjust policies and practices upheld by our senate. we are survivors of lack of resources within our schools. we are survivors of social,
