As Wisconsin reflects on its February wolf hunt, opinion remains split regarding the impact of the hunt. Some 216 wolves are known to have been killed during that brief period, exceeding a quota of 119 wolves that was set by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) outside of reservation lands. By Feb. 24, the hunt was closed by the DNR, four days ahead of schedule.
Advocates for the hunt saw it as necessary species management, as well as an issue of constitutional rights for hunters. Conservationists, however, questioned several aspects of the hunt and how quickly it developed. In the last days of the Trump Administration, the gray wolf (Canis Lupus) was removed from the federal endangered species list. After a circuit court judge ruled in favor of a Kansas-based hunters’ organization, the DNR began preparing for the 2021 wolf hunt.

Illegal wolf and monkey skin products, seized by police in Tooting Police have seized an illegal wolf-skin rug recently discovered by the Met Police s Wildlife Crime Team in Tooting. The stunning specimen was listed on the open market without the correct certification, and was seized by officers cracking down on the vile fur trade. Tooting Ward Police Team tweeted out saying another Wildlife Crime I/V completed after the sale of a recently manufactured Wolf-Skin (Canis Lupus) Rug was discovered. This stunning specimen should never be on the open market, especially without the correct certification (or ever in my opinion!)

Wolves removed from endangered list
Decision would make lethal control possible for stock depredation; a controversial move
In January, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service formally removed most gray wolves in the lower 48 from the Endangered Species List, which turns management over to state fish and wildlife agencies including ODFW.
In Oregon, wolves west of Highways 395-78-95 had remained on the federal ESA when the area east of this boundary was delisted in 2011.
While U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was the lead agency in the western two-thirds of the state, ODFW has always played a significant role in wolf conservation and management statewide since wolves began to re-establish themselves in Oregon in the 2000s.
