Waitrose, the first supermarket on Canford Heath Waitrose opened its doors on 30 June 1970, the pocket-sized branch opened with a delicatessen, an off-license, and employed 53 partners, most being local residents. The branch closed in 1982 as the branch did not have enough space to expand its assortment to meet new competition in the area. It was replaced with a Kwik Save but is currently an Iceland.
