The flag to lie to repose in the state house. Alabamas governor took down the Confederate Flag from that State Capitol grounds and Terry Mcauliffe has called for the state flag to be removed from all license plates. Governor welcome. Youve taken dramatic action under your authority, the license plate. I announced yesterday that i want the Confederate Flag removed from every license plate in virginia. Yesterday it was taken down from the dmv site. You can no longer get those from the state. Ive begun the process today to reach out to the folks from the sons of the confederacy to tell me two or three weeks to redesign their plate without the battle flag on it. We will move forward and recall every license plate at no cost and give a virginia resident a new license plate. So 90 to 120 days on the outside there will be not the battle flag on any virginia license plate. Do we know how many cars . About 2,000 license plates right now. There were some folks in the queue to buy new plates yest
Senseless violence. Now he has fallen to senseless violence. Its hard for me and the community to process. Just unbelievable this has happened in the holy city. Streets were blocked off and i said it cant be. I dont believe it. Shock. Im kind of numb. Its like im really not happening. This is our town square. You know its just unbelievable. Today we are seeing the Community Come together and mourn. Police are calling the massacre that it was a hate crime. What has our society come to when people are gunned done in a prayer meeting in the sacred halls of a church . As i stood in prayer with local Community Leaders and met with the mayor of charleston everyone has the same question. Where can you go if you cant go to a church or a mosque or synagogue and have bible study or prayer and not be safe . This senseless, horrific act is something of a wakeup call at many levels. Let me bring in craig melvin. Craig, give us the latest on the investigation. As you indicated, the 21yearold suspect
Good day. Im Andrea Mitchell in washington. Hundreds of people are gathered in the South Carolina capitol of columbia at this hour to pressure state legislatures to remove the Confederate Flag from the grounds in the wake of last weeks killings. Bring it down bring it down bring it down bring it down the reaction from some people in charleston today seem to be mixed. I just think its a flag. You know theres a lot more in this world to focus on than a flag. I mean it doesnt cause people to act a certain way or do a certain thing. I mean its people out here killing people. Lets focus on that. The Confederate Flag is a symbol of institutional racism. Its a powerful memoir of a dark time in american history. I think the flag actually represents heritage. Thats what it means to a lot of people. But as far as africanamerican people go a lot of people view the flag as something negative. Nbcs craig melvin joins me now in columbia near the state capital. Craig, what is the plorocess here . Whe
Install them yesterday. That same man has installed crossed for other mass shooting victims at columbine, sandy hook, and the orlando nightclub. I got to take a breath on that one. Excuse me. Lets bring in nbc justice correspondent Pete Williams for the latest on the investigation. Pete, we got to take a breath. You and i have spent the last week talking so much about Stephen Paddock and what was going through his mind and who he was. But my gosh. When you think about those 58 people who on a sunday night you cant think of something more joyful than just going to a concert, sitting in lawn chairs and a blanket with your friends and family listening to music. It is a tragedy beyond words. All right. Lets go back absolutely right. Whenever Something Like this happens, theres the natural desire to talk about the victims and not to give more attention to the people who carried this out. The reason that the sheriff has said and the authorities have said. They have to find out why. Theres ne
