HRB make changes to cancer trials funding
A major change to funding structures for cancer clinical trials in hospital ‘clusters’ is in train for 2022.

A new Health Research Board (HRB) grant cycle beginning in January 2022, is to change the way the components of the cancer clinical trials delivery system receive funding, and also how the recipients may use this budget.
Previously, the HRB might stipulate disease areas or study types to focus on, whereas now the ‘Cancer Trials Network’, to become ‘Cancer Trials Ireland’ and its central office core team and infrastructure, should its application be successful, and the ‘clusters’, those hospital sites that administer clinical trials to patients, are to receive ‘core’ funding,
