“We’re pleased to announce that Samir Macklai, a first-year Ryerson University GCM (Graphic Communications Management) student, has been chosen to receive the $5,000 Warren Wilkins scholarship for the 2020/2021 academic year” said Jeff Ekstein, Chair of Canadian Print Scholarships. The scholarship provides special recognition to a particularly deserving student starting post-secondary studies toward a career in the graphic communications industry.

Warren Wilkins was a printing industry leader who started a successful book printing company called Webcom Limited over 35 years ago. Today, Toronto-based Webcom is a leading Canadian book manufacturer serving Canadian, U.S. and worldwide publishers by providing turnkey book printing solutions for global and independent book publishers alike. Wilkins died peacefully on November 3, 2016 at the age of 88.
The mission of the Canadian Printing Industries Scholarship Trust Fund (CPISTF) is to attract the brightest and best students to the printing and graphic communications industry by providing financial assistance to enroll and continue in a post-secondary management or technical program at an approved educational institution. Most recently, Canadian Print Scholarships (Toronto) established the Don Gain Scholarship named in memory of print industry veteran who passed away at 71 on December 31, 2020.

To honour his dedication and industry leadership, Canadian Print Scholarships established a fundraising campaign to create the new scholarship named for him. The Board of Trustees at Canadian Print Scholarships is saddened by the passing of industry veteran Don Gain at the end of December.
As a passionate supporter of the printing industry in Canada, Don served in many volunteer positions including nearly 15 years of service to Canadian Print Scholarships. He became involved in 2002 as a Trustee and within 3 years accepted the role of Chair of the Board.
