Letter to the Editor: "At least we're better than Trump" isn't going to cut it anymore –

Laurel Collins. Collins is the Member of Parliament for Victoria. President Biden extended the student loan payment freeze on his first day in office. Since the beginning of this pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shown little concern for the struggles of students and recent graduates. Not only did he leave students in the lurch this summer by rushing to give his friends at We Charity a billion dollars to roll out an employment program that never happened due to his scandals, he had to be pushed by the NDP to improve the Canadian Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) and agree to a student loan moratorium. But, now Trudeau has gone back on his promise to extend the freeze on student loan payments.

Jagmeet Singh doesn't want a spring election but says NDP is "ready" if it happens

“But we are ready for an election. We don’t want one, we don’t think it’s the right time given the variants, given the vaccines are available and how it should be a priority. But we are ready. We are in a better position than we were in 2019.” Singh credits part of that preparedness to his young supporters. “I really believe young people are going to make history in this next election. They are fed up with a rigged economy that seems to be benefiting those at the very top, and the wealthiest continue to get richer but working people continue to struggle,” he said.

U of O student told to repay $12K in CERB benefits

However, the CRA s letter says student loans and bursaries do not count toward employment income. I called them and I made sure that I [did] the work that I need to do to make sure I m eligible for it, Coucopoulos said. The CRA s letter advises Coucopoulos to repay the $12,000 in benefits he received by the end of December, although it notes he may have made an honest mistake and says no penalties or interest would be charged if he missed that date. A copy of the letter sent by the CRA to Coucopoulos.(submitted by Alex Coucopoulos) The federal government has acknowledged that it provided unclear instructions when the CERB program was being rolled out, including the information provided to call centre agents.
