Canadian farmers besieged by severe drought will be getting some help from the federal government.
Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau announced on Thursday a list of support measures for farmers in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario.
This includes early designation of the Livestock Tax Deferral provision allowing beef producers to defer a portion of sale proceeds to the following year making drought-damaged crops available for feed and allowing impacted provinces to delay their participation in the AgriStability risk-management program, which producers can receive payment through if their production margin falls more than 30 per cent below what it is historically.
