The Department of National Defence has signed an Agreement in Principle with TC Energy that will see the company advance to an Impact Assessment for a proposed hydroelectric pumped-storage facility at 4th Canadian Division Training Centre Meaford (4 CDTC).

This Agreement in Principle provides that the project could operationally co-exist at 4 CDTC if it does not impact military activities and training. A large portion of the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre is so heavily contaminated with unexploded ordnance military personnel are restricted from entry, Meaford officials recently heard.
Now, the municipality is planning to ask federal officials to fully disclose the severity of the contamination and their plans to remediate the site over the next 25 years.

The federal government advised municipal staff a 6,435-acre section of the army base northwest of town known as the Dud Producing, Non-Dud Producing, and White Phosphorus (WP) Approved areas are fenced off and not accessed by military personnel for troop or ground training.
