CATCA surveys members about NAV Canada cuts April 5, 2021
Canadian Air Traffic Control Association (CATCA) in late-March released the results of a survey it commissioned, primarily asking its membership if public safety will be put at risk if NAV Canada proceeds with its intended Area Control Centre layoffs and Air Traffic Control tower closures.
CATCA explains the survey received responses from 1,400 of Canada’s 1,800 licenced controllers with more than 80 per cent saying the believe public safety will be put at risk. Just over 40 per cent of controllers said the looming NAV Canada cuts pose a high risk to public safety, while roughly 39 per cent indicated there would be a moderate safety risk if the cuts go ahead. CATCA highlights that only two per cent of those surveyed said there is no safety risk.
