Charlotte murder suspect arrested in Lexington
A man accused of a November murder near UNC Charlotte was arrested Tuesday in Lexington.
On Friday, Nov. 7, 23-year-old Xavier Adams died at the hospital after being assaulted in the 9800 block of Campus Walk Lane in Charlotte, the Charlotte Observer reported.
On Jan. 19, authorities arrested Azariel Araque, 20, in Lexington in connection with the murder, according to a press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He s being charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and accessory after the fact to murder.
Araque is the second suspect arrested in this case. Authorities had previously charged Willie Swinton, 27, with Adams murder.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg detectives have charged a second suspect in connection to a deadly shooting that happened near the UNC Charlotte campus in early November.
After a continued investigation, police identified 22-year-old Azariel Araque as a suspect in the Xavier Adams homicide case and warrants were issued for his arrest.
Police say Araque was arrested Tuesday in Lexington, North Carolina, with the assistance of CMPD’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT).
Following an interview, Araque was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and charged with Murder, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, and Accessory After the Fact to Murder, according to CMPD.
