EDITOR’S NOTE: This is part two of a two part series about the Me Over Meth Region 2 Prevention Conference held Friday, Oct. 27, at the JPH Center on the South Campus of North Arkansas College. The Arkansas Department of Human Services’ Division of Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services (DAABHS) and the Arkansas Drug Director have created the “Me Over Meth” campaign to raise awareness of the methamphetamine threat to Arkansas. The prevention campaign is aimed at building community capacity to eradicate methamphetamine in the state. UA Little Rock MidSouth Center for Prevention and Training along with North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education, joined in helping sponsor the conference. The Region 2 Prevention Task Force is comprised of stakeholders representing Baxter, Boone, Marion, Newton and Searcy counties.

Dr. Caven Clark, retired Cultural Resource Management Specialist for the National Park Service, will be the featured speaker on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the South Campus of North Arkansas College. Dr. Clark’s presentation will be located in Room M143 and the program will begin at 6:30 p.m. His presentation will highlight the archeology of plants native to the Ozarks and the Buffalo National River. Dr. Clark will further illuminate how the science and art of recovering, identifying, and interpreting the significance of various historical plant species to our native Ozarks and the Buffalo.
State legislators are cutting through the noise: The noise pollution of crypto mining and its effects on children and education will be the topic of an upcoming Arkansas senate committee meeting in Harrison. The Arkansas Senate Committee on Children and Youth will meet at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 24, at the JPH Convention Center at the South Campus of North Arkansas College, located at 1515 Pioneer Drive in Harrison.
