New Gear Library at Colorado Mountain College breaks down barriers for outdoor recreation

LEADVILLE, Colo. Colorado Mountain College (CMC) in Leadville has a new library, but this one doesn’t carry books.
CMC partnered with Get Outdoors Leadville! (GOL!) to create a “gear library” on campus where residents of Lake County can purchase an annual membership for $30, or students can purchase for $15, according to their website.
Members then have access to rent out snowshoes, bikes, Nordic skis, camping equipment and other types of outdoor gear. According to GOL!’s website, you just need to fill out a request for the gear you want to rent online or in person, and from there you will be able to use the gear for up to 14 days.

Annually Dakota College at Bottineau celebrates Earth Day. This year the celebration we be held in a different manner as they have been recognized as a 2019 Tree Campus USA(r). The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities for effective campus forest management and for engaging staff and students in conservation goals.
The state Arbor Day celebration will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 on the grounds of Dakota College at Bottineau, one of North Dakota s four Tree Campus Higher Education campuses. The event will take place on the lawn just south of Old Main. The event will begin at 10:00 AM, with a ceremony featuring current State Forester Thomas Claeys, former State Forester Larry Kotchman, and Campus Dean Dr. Jerry Migler. A tree planting and refreshments will follow the ceremony. All are invited to join and celebrate.

After nearly ten years with Colorado Mountain College, Rachel Pokrandt, vice president and campus dean of the Leadville and Salida campuses, has accepted the role of President at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.
“This is a bittersweet moment for me because I absolutely love the Leadville and Salida communities and our amazing, dedicated faculty, staff, and students,” Pokrandt said. “We have the most innovative and dedicated people at both campuses and I look forward to following their successes in the years to come. They all have students and community at the heart of everything they do and I see a bright future ahead.”
