A COMMERCIAL site in Musselburgh could be transformed into a block of 44 flats for rent. Planning consent is being sought from East Lothian Council for the joint venture between Hopefield Partnerships and Places for People to make “a significant contribution to the affordable housing requirements both locally and nationally”. The new development would be built on a brownfield site at Olive Bank Road, which is the current premises of HM Raitt & Sons, a local joiner/builder/contractor, and Campie Garage, a vehicle repair and maintenance outlet. A design and access statement for the project said: “It should be noted that 100 per cent of the 44 proposed flats will be offered as mid-market rent (MMR) to meet the urgent need for quality affordable housing locally and contribute to the Scottish Government’s target of 50,000 affordable homes delivered during this Parliament term, with at least 35,000 homes for social rent.”
