YOUNGSTOWN An assistant county prosecutor told Judge John Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court that the behavior of a Coitsville Township police officer, when the officer chased a man on a moped Aug. 6, 2020, is a reason for the type of plea agreement the man received this week.
Assistant Prosecutor Nick Brevetta told The Vindicator he would not discuss the specifics of the officer’s behavior, but a letter from Youngstown Police Department internal affairs officer Brian Butler sheds some light on it.
Police activity reported Feb. 19-March 9:
March 9, 10:58 a.m. Filing of a false unemployment claim reported by a Sheridan Road resident.
March 7, 4:04 a.m. Michael L. Dodd Jr., 25, 127 Churchill Road, Girard, was arrested on an active Youngstown warrant for failure to appear on a failure to register a dog kennel charge and was cited for a red light violation and speeding (49 in a 25 zone), following a traffic stop on state Route 616.
March 4, 4:05 p.m. An investigation was conducted after a face mask with dried blood on it was discovered on top of a mail box by a resident at 67 Hill Drive.
CAMPBELL A Campbell woman is in the Mahoning County jail after police said her child told them she was “high” which caused him to leave the residence.
Nicole Nagy, 35, is scheduled for a pretrial hearing in Campbell Municipal Court on Friday, court records show.
She is facing charges of possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment.
According to a police report, a citizen flagged down an officer while on patrol after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, bringing a child to the officer.
The child, 11, wearing pajamas but no socks or shoes, told the officer his mother was “high” and yelled at him as she stumbled around the house on Murray Avenue.
A jury in Campbell Municipal Court later found Atsas not guilty of any wrongdoing.
Attorney Scott Essad of Boardman filed the suit recently in U.S. District Court, seeking damages of $475,000. Judge Sara Lioi in Akron is assigned to hear the case.
It names as defendants Campbell schools Superintendent Matthew Bowen, the Campbell City School District Board of Education, Campbell police officer Ryan Young, police Lt. Kevin Sferra and the city.
The Campbell Police Department charged Atsas with six felony counts of theft in office and six misdemeanor counts of theft by deception in November 2019. The charges followed an investigation prompted by Bowen, who went to police Nov. 19, 2019, to report concerns that Atsas may have “possibly stolen money from the soccer program and kept the money for his personal gain,” according to a Campbell police report.
YOUNGSTOWN The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Anthony M. Consiglio, 26, on Thursday and took him to the Mahoning County jail after a grand jury indicted him on seven charges, including rape.
Consiglio also was indicted on attempted rape, aggravated robbery, robbery, theft from a person in a protected class, domestic violence and obstructing official business. If convicted, he could get about 40 years in prison.
Consiglio had charges bound over from Campbell Municipal Court to the grand jury earlier this month.
