serious foreign policy challenges from china to russia to ukraine and a sputtering economy here at home. his poll numbers are not good. even a majority of democrats tell pollsters he should not run for a second term. but the campaign is launched. white house correspondent jacqui heinrich starts us off live tonight live from the north lawn. good evening, jacqui. good evening to you, bret. the president hasn t yet commented on his own re-election bid. reporters weren t allowed close enough today to ask. and officials wouldn t weigh in on what factored into his decision-making citing the hatch act. but the white house calculus seems to be that biden can win voter support in 2024 the same way did he in 2020. with a campaign that happens mostly online. >it s time to finish the job. finish the job. the president s first audience since announcing re-election bid giving a warm election. [chanting four more years] but this campaign isn t shaping up to be about what
claimed obama took documents himself in august. and it was debunked then by the national archives and records administration. explained in a public statement it had taken custody of obama s records after obama s terms and it had itself taken the records to a facility it managed in the chicago area saying, quote, former president obama has no control over where or how we store the records of his presidential administration. so trump is suggesting that barack obama did something like he did, taking documents to his home, but it didn t happen. poppy said you were sharpening your pencil. i hope you re in the computer age. i m thinking now that trump is running again, daniel doesn t get a day off. seriously, we d be lost without you. thank you for the facts. going forward, the 2024 campaign isn t the only thing that trump has on his plate.
form ate against the west and ukraine nazis, and some of the pundits are saying maybe we need to rethink this. maybe we re achieving the opposite of what we wanted which is that the ukrainians hate us. so i think we re seeing the small sands of it. but i think we re grasping at straws because there is so much we don t know about what is happening. but certainly when you have the chechen leader, a huge supporter of putin intimating that this campaign isn t going too well and people ought to listen to him and to others who want something different, we should be very attuned to these signs of potential discontent among the military, and among some of the people around putin. and fiona, i want to ask you about the piece that you and angela wrote about putin and his world view and what he s really wanting. in this piece you talk about the reaction from the west. the unified reaction from the west so far. i also and i read it because
book, race crazy. president obama was there campaigning too and he said part of the thing with the virginia races they ve made up all kinds of phony culture wars. i want to play something terry mcauliffe had to say about that. critical race theory has never been taught in virginia, it s a made up of racist dog whistle that glenn youngkin has used since they 1 and it sickens me. he s getting parents fighting parents, parents fighting teachers, he is using our children as political pawns in the campaign. shannon: we are told upset parents in virginia are being leveraged and used by people who are making much ado about nothing, what do you think? i think that s terrible, i can t speak specifically to virginia and what is going on there but i can tell you as a guy who s fighting in education what is being taught, what
only hurt. the former president is really good at trolling people, at teases, what do you think this is about? i can t wait to see president trump come i hope he comes out. let s have him, he s got trump national, he s got trump wind their way here have him here because i think this is not just a virginia election, this is a national election in terms of its implications. we are six days away, we d seen some great early vote numbers from democrats, that s an encouraging sign. three and a half times the early boats as we saw back in 2017 but there are critical issues on this ballot and i would love to see glenn youngkin campaign with president trump. i don t know why his campaign isn t pushing to have him join him because he is very popular with republicans in certain parts of that state. he can do a great job in terms of galvanizing the vote. shannon: the left has made this so much about republicans who are running here and there are only a couple of big off
