i think there s lots of questions there. rebecca, you covered the clinton campaign. and one of the things that strikes me when i go back and look at the campaign footage is how much they were talking about this, from the beginning. it is striking to go back to debates and realize, like, it was all happening in realtime and the clinton campaignrealtim. yeah, hillary clinton was talking about so many of the details. i saw a clip of her talking about joe arpaio. she was talking about so much, but especially about russia. they clearly were keeping track of this as best they could and trying to piece things together as best they could. but it wasn t sinking in. they weren t listening. i wasn t listening. as someone who was covering the campaign, i wasn t thinking about russia s role. i was listening, but i don t know, it was a claim of an opponent against another opponent. it wasn t it didn t feel real. you know, i was paying attention, but trying not to get sucked into a conspiracy t
you have a situation like congress does what the former representative tom lance does, the theater of the absurd with the steroid trials and they don t call they call one general manager. brian sabian of the giants and zero owners. it sends a message. and they break the union. there s a quote from my book at john mccain going after the player s union. so what do you think of the lance armstrong thing? lance armstrong, you really are going after the cop. and then it took some it actually, did, take some risk on the part of the institutional cycling to go after this icon. this guy who was the most successful athlete in his sport in history, a. and b, this amazing story of beating cancer and coming back and winning and, c, was a cultural phenomenon. if you look at 2004 campaign footage. john kerry, has a live strong lance armstrong yellow bracelet
time and i think that s what will happen. the house up cans will start taking elements of simpson-bolls and others that were laid out in the super committee meetings and start to move it through the house and send it to the senate so if there s no progress on this it s on harry reid and the democrats. where it really belongs is on president obama. he s the president of the united states. he should be leading this process. he should be he says he s very engaged in helping settle europe s debt problem. maybe he ought to be engaged each a little bit in trying to solve the debt problem in the united states. all right. so karl, moving ahead to the 2012 race, how will the gop, whoever the eventual nominee, take on this issue? we know they will say this is the republican fault because they are protecting their rich friends. well, what you do, you go back to what the president said in the 2008 campaign. there s lots of campaign footage of him talking about how he s going to stop the defi
