Province highlights NEAT during Community Social Services Awareness Month

NEAT food security program. (NEAT) FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. –  The British Columbia Government proclaims March as Community Social Services Awareness Month in appreciation of the more than 42,000 people who work in the community social services sector, including the Northern Environmental Action Team. NEAT was founded 30 years ago to help Fort St. John residents develop a plan to keep more household waste out of the landfill. Since 2017, the regional district has handled solid waste management, allowing NEAT to turn its attention to other community projects, including those surrounding food security. Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Nicholas Simons says access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food is a key priority for the government.
