Falklands pupil triumphs in annual Christmas card competition

Henrietta Barlow, a Year 3 student at the Infant Junior School and Camp Education in the Falkland Islands, has been crowned the winner of the Falkland Islands Government Office s (FIGO) Annual Christmas Card Competition. Mr. Richard Hyslop, the Falkland Islands Government Representative to the UK & Europe, presented Henrietta with a special prize and certificate in recognition of her festive design.

Falklands, changes made to the provision of Camp Education

In August 2022 the Falkland Islands ExCo approved a set of recommendations on the way that Camp Education is provided to families. The recommendations were made after extensive consultation with the communities in Camp and in Stanley during the Camp Education Review. A key objective of the review was ensuring that children in Camp and Stanley have the same standard of education.

2022 Was a Boom Year For Falklands Squid and Finfish Fleets

Fisheries authorities in the Falkland Islands have said that 2022 was a bumper year for the squid and hake fishing fleets licenced by the territory. Sixteen ships caught a remarkable 101,166 tonnes of loligo squid; a catch that was exceeded only in 1989, when 118,120 tonnes were landed, although that record catch was achieved by almost three times as many ships.
