Wilmington businesses taking notice of Holly Ridge industrial park

Holly Ridge Mayor Jeff Wenzel knows a lot about the historical growth of the town s Camp Davis area and its impact on the community. Right out World War II, the town’s population ballooned from less than 30 people to 110,000 when the military installation was built. For about a decade, the population stayed at that level until the camp shut down, bursting the population down to hundreds. Now, with the ongoing progress of the Camp Davis Industrial Park and completion of the first part, Wenzel is ready for a modern wave of growth. “Camp Davis has had a boom once before and right now, I think we’re on the brink of a second boom,” said Wenzel about the Onslow County town, which has seen its population double in the last 10 years to better than 2,000.

Holly Ridge nears Camp Davis Industrial Park Phase Two expansion

Holly Ridge Mayor Jeff Wenzel calls the specialized approach “a long term growth strategy” for the town.  “A lot of the people that live in Holly Ridge don’t work in Holly Ridge,” Wenzel said. “The more people that we can get to stay or even commute to Holly Ridge will continue to drive new small businesses to be formed and open to support people that are here during the day.”  Wenzel says the town is about halfway to its goal of $1.6 million in grants for Phase Two. Once the goal is met, the grant funds would be used to complete the public infrastructure work needed to lure more businesses to the park.
