Election candidates asked how they would support the return of an Isle of Wight ice rink
Candidates from across the political spectrum were asked where they stood on the issue of supporting an ice rink back on the Island
Details of where candidates in today’s Isle of Wight council and town, parish and community councils stand on the issue Ryde Arena have been shared by Ryde Arena Community Action Group (RACAG).
RACAG asked all candidates in the election to detail how they would support getting an ice rink back on the Isle of Wight.
They explained,
“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed all of our lives and further complicated the situation for us. The planning permission for the Smallbrook site came with a list of conditions, many of which can only be addressed by the council.

Islanders are urged to vote tomorrow, and reminded that “there’s too much at stake for residents not to vote, so help create a new Council where you will be fully represented” by voting on Thursday
A coalition of candidates from across the political spectrum, and independents, in tomorrow’s 2021 Isle of Wight council election urge Islanders to get out and vote to “elect a new Isle of Wight Council that is trustworthy and transparent and which can help transform the Island for the better”.

Students from the Isle of Wight College and Platform One, College of Music have been working alongside People Media Productions to film very short messages from candidates standing at the Island’s local elections on Thursday 6th May.
Prospective candidates from each party were invited last week to the AAA Live studio in Merstone to deliver the essence of their vision for the Island over the coming years. The punchy videos (see below) are being shared widely across social media and the studios are run by Technical Director at AAA Live, Martin Hall.
Cowes Floating Bridge suspended for repairs following split weld (updated)
The bridge is expected to be out of action for several hours
A split weld has been identified this morning on the north east ram. Engineers have been instructed to replace the ram.
The work is expected to take place this morning and the service has been suspended from 10am.
Avoiding a longer period out of action
The work is being undertaken asap to avoid the weld deteriorating further over the weekend, which would run the risk of suspending the service for a much longer period of time.
The Jenny Lee is in operation for foot passengers.
