WOOSTER Minus the signs for Liberty Screen Printing and Embroidery, the brick building on South Street in Wooster looks like an old theater.
Before it was a printing service and Faith Harvest Church, it was a theater. Its name can still be seen on the billboard-styled sign out front: Big Picture.
Now, nearly 40 years after the building was constructed, a local nonprofit has purchased the property in the hopes of bringing the smalltown theater back to life.
Founded in 2019, the Downtown Arts Theater is a 501(c)(3) that aims to acquire and renovate former theaters as event venues and cinemas. This is an exciting development, said Cameron Maneese, executive director of the nonprofit. It is the first step toward our mission to entertain, educate and enrich our community.
