The Liberal government is overhauling the rules governing the mortgage industry in a bid to target what it said were pockets of risk in the housing market.
The three-pronged approach includes doubling the minimum down payment for some home buyers, increasing the fees charged to lenders that securitize government-backed mortgages, and proposed changes that could require lenders to hold more capital against some insured loans in order to curb mortgage fraud and to slow rising levels of household debt.
Tuesday’s Sheridan County Commission meeting was moved to the Exhibit Hall at the fairgrounds to accommodate those interested in discussing and offering public comment on the application for a permit for the proposed Sheridan Solar project.
The project, if approved by the county, would construct a 96-acre 20-megawatt commercial solar energy facility on a 163-acre parcel owned by Cameron Forbes off of Swaim Road between Sheridan and Big Horn.
More than a dozen people spoke during the public hearing, opposed to the project based on location on the property, water quality issues, what were called inaccuracies in the application, and various other issues.
