They were volunteering at an ebola treatment unit in west africa where they came in contact with the virus. This is the second ebola patient treated here at nih. The first was nurse nina pham. She contracted the virus at a dallas hospital while treating Thomas Duncan a liberian man who fell ill shortly after coming to the u. S. Pham was successfully treated, and released and she is now ebolafree. Nih has a highly specialized contagious disease unit designed to handle diseases like ebola one of a handful of such facilities in the country. Hospital officials are not releasing a lot of information about this patient. We dont know their gender for example, or their age.
