Donavyn Lee Mayfield: Second man charged in deadly Camelot Village Apartments shooting in late-February

The shooting happened at the Camelot Village Apartments on Estes Drive near Willow Drive on Feb. 19. Police said Dearie William Bourne, 21, of Chapel Hill died in the shooting. On Wednesday, the Chapel Hill Police Department arrested Donavyn Lee Mayfield, 20, of Carrboro. Mayfield was charged with the first-degree murder of Bourne. Mayfield is also facing kidnapping, breaking and entering and larceny charges. He is being held at the Orange County Jail under no bond. Jermaine Mailk Jahquan Chance, 21, of Mebane, was also charged with first-degree murder, breaking and entering on Feb. 20. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call 911. Chapel Hill Police are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex Friday afternoon that left one person dead. The shooting, which happened shortly before 2:40 p.m., was said to involve multiple gunshots. At the time, police warned of an increased presence near Camelot Village and later said at least one victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Hours later, police department confirmed to Chapelboro a person died from gunshot wounds after being shot at the Camelot Village Apartments off South Estes Drive. On Saturday, the victim was revealed to be Dearie William Bourne, 21, of Chapel Hill.

Gunshots from the Camelot Village complex in Chapel Hill led to a police investigation and the arrest of a Burlington man on Tuesday. Residents and community members near the neighborhood off South Estes Drive reported hearing multiple gunshots from the area shortly after 2 p.m. A spokesperson for the Chapel Hill Police Department told Chapelboro officers were dispatched to the area based on a shots-fired call. Chapel Hill Police arrested 20-year-old Jadakiss Deandre Gattis in connection to the incident. Officers were seen taking him into custody in the parking lot of University Place, which is across the street from the entrance to Camelot Village, shortly after the incident.
