Vaccination sites across the city had to quickly pivot from the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine to Moderna or Pfizer vaccines this morning. And as a result, some locations that only offered the J&J vaccine had to temporarily shut down.
The FEMA Esperanza clinic in Hunting Park, a site where the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is usually distributed, is now closed after the CDC and FDA recommended a delay on distribution.
In North Philly, the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium immediately pulled the Johnson & Johnson vaccine as well. But their site at Deliverance Evangelistic Church was in full swing. Luckily for folks in line waiting for the “one and done” the Moderna shot is a viable alternative.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ Camden County s COVID-19 vaccination center will be pausing use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine based on recommendations from the federal government, county officials said Tuesday morning.
The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will continue to be administered, and no appointments will need to be rescheduled. The Camden County Department of Health has been monitoring the latest news from the FDA this morning regarding the J&J vaccine and the six impacted patients in Nebraska, Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. Based on the information that currently exists, and out of an abundance of caution, with guidance from the state Department of Health and our healthcare partners, we will be pausing the use of this vaccine. Thousands of South Jersey residents are receiving COVID-19 vaccinations thanks to the volunteer service of Rutgers University‒Camden nursing faculty and students who have been on the front line of this massive effort since New Jersey began receiving doses of the vaccine in January.
Nearly 400 Rutgers School of Nursing‒Camden students are assisting at the Camden County vaccination center in Blackwood, checking in community members, answering questions, and administering the Moderna vaccine.
Johnnet Reeves hopes her decision to be inoculated will inspire other people to get vaccinated.
Most of the Rutgers–Camden nursing students had been taking virtual classes since the pandemic began, but now they have an opportunity to help contain the virus’s spread, while getting hands-on experience and fulfilling clinical rotation and volunteer requirements.
