A spatial framework for the Oxford to Cambridge Arc sets out a plan for economic growth A ROADMAP to create an economic boom worth £200bn a year in a region between Oxford and Cambridge has been launched. The Government has been promoting the idea of an Oxford to Cambridge Arc for several years, which would take advantage of boom local economy, and encourage growth of the science and technology businesses in the area. The Oxford to Cambridge Arc Spatial Framework, launched last Thursday, provides a plan for how to create an economic output of £200bn a year by 2050 in the region by building infrastructure and homes, and creating thousands of jobs.

Generational plan will unlock the long-term potential of the region, transforming the Arc into a world-class place to live and work sustainably.
An intention to establish a new single voice for the area - an Arc Growth Body - to drive and support economic growth
An ambitious plan to unleash the economic and cultural potential of the Oxford-Cambridge Arc, to transform it into one of the world’s premier growth corridors and a world-leader in sustainability, has been announced today (18 February 2021) by Housing Minister Rt Hon Christopher Pincher.
The spatial framework plan will help to create thousands of jobs, drive investment, protect and enhance the environment, and provide the infrastructure and beautiful new places needed to make the area – which spans the five counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire – an even greater place to live and work.
The Oxfordshire countryside and a general view of Oxford. EXPERTS in transport and the environment have warned that people are being sidelined from big decisions about Oxfordshire’s future, and that local democracy is being slowly eroded away. A campaigning group called Planning Oxfordshire’s Environment and Transport Sustainably (POETS) warned last year that there is a ‘democratic deficit’ in the county. And this year, they have said this has become worse, claiming the Government has ‘enfeebled’ local councils, through moves like intervening in South Oxfordshire’s Local Plan. The group has also said huge projects like the Oxford to Cambridge Arc have a top-down approach with very little say from people affected by them on the ground.

OXT 14/06/2018 17 Page leader Oxford View from OBGC (Chris Andrews) OXFORDSHIRE’s local leaders are committing to leave the county’s natural environment ‘in a better state than which we found it’. The county’s Growth Board, an organisation which aims to spend £215m of Government cash on big housing and transport projects, has drawn up a ‘strategic vision’ for where it wants the county to be in the next 30 years. This vision, a shared promise by from all local corridors of power, includes seven aims for the county. These include that Oxfordshire’s current residents should leave the natural environment in a better state than it currently is, and that better health and building standards should be promoted.
