Council needed unanimous approval to do a third and final reading of the Prohibited Business Bylaw during its meeting Wednesday, which would have put the bylaw into effect right away. The third and final reading instead is to take place Aug. 11 after a two-week summer break, but will not need unanimous approval by council.

“There is some understanding that in some respects it’s a little bit symbolic because it is relative to business prohibition,” said Mayor Sandra Masters after Wednesday’s meeting. “But the LGBTQ2S community (was) looking for a position from the City of Regina relative to conversion therapy being banned and we delivered that this evening.”
