Steuben County hits new 3-day high for COVID-19 cases Cities of Hornell, Corning have highest numbers of new cases Staff reports BATH Steuben County has eclipsed 500 active COVID-19 cases with 155 residents testing positive for COVID-19 since Saturday, the Steuben County Public Health Department said Monday night.  This brings the total to 2,887 confirmed cases, 530 of which are currently active. The 155 new cases represent the county s highest three-day total since the pandemic began.  “We simply cannot sustain this type of increase in our county,  said Public Health Director Darlene Smith.  Please reconsider your holiday plans, personal choices, destinations and who you gather with.”

Local officials urge community to take every precaution with significant increase in hospitalizations at St. James Staff reports HORNELL As the number of COVID-19 cases grows in Hornell and surrounding communities, with more patients being hospitalized at UR Medicine/St. James Hospital, local officials ask the community to take every precaution to maintain safety. “We are experiencing a significant increase in hospitalizations at St. James,” said St. James president and CEO, Bryan O’Donovan. “We ask people to please continue to follow the guidelines to stay safe.” Hornell City Mayor John Buckley concurs. “It’s still important for people to avoid social gatherings with others outside of their immediate household,” he said. “We know it’s difficult especially around the holidays, but we want our community members to stay as healthy as possible.”
