What happened to Mikayla Miller?
Ryan, in a press conference on May 4, denied claims that her office was not investigating the case. She said investigators had questioned several witnesses, including the teens who were allegedly involved in a fight with Miller on April 17.
Ryan said Miller got into a fight with one teenage boy and one teenage girl. Ryan also said all five teens who were present that night were not in the area where Miller’s body was found, based on witness, video and electronic evidence.
During a rally that drew several hundred people on May 6 in downtown Hopkinton, Strothers said: Given everything that has transpired over the past few weeks, I want to make sure that I am clear about my goals in all of this: It s to have full transparency and get justice for my daughter.”

“I do not believe that my daughter committed suicide,” Calvina Strothers said Wednesday during an audio press conference. “That’s nothing I’m willing to entertain.”
Miller, 16, was found dead on April 18 on West Central Street in Hopkinton. According to the death certificate, which was released Tuesday, the manner of death was suicide and the cause was asphyxiation by hanging.
Strothers on Wednesday was joined at the press conference by nationally known civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump; David Johns, executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition; Tito Jackson, a former member of the Boston City Council; and Monica Cannon-Grant, CEO and founder of Violence In Boston Inc. They believe Miller s death was murder.
The man responded, “Not at all.”
Incident type listed as Suicide in log
The police log entry, which was previously removed from the public log, lists several officers going to the scene at 7:04 a.m.
“Calling party reports 16 y/o hung herself in a tree, D.O.A.,” the log item reads. (D.O.A. stands for dead on arrival.)
The dispatcher log entry lists “Incident Type,” as “Suicide.”
In the statement, Bennett said some information could not be released, particularly those involving a fight on April 17 involving Miller and several teens because it is a domestic abuse investigation, which is not allowed to be released to the public. Strothers said her daughter was jumped by five teens, including two with family members on the Hopkinton police force. Ryan has previously said Miller fought with two teens – a boy and a girl.
