Davis said helping the veterans means a lot to her.
“I treat them like I treated my father,” she said. “I think of my dad every day when I’m here taking care of them.”
Davis’ father, Calvin McLaurin, died in 2014 on the day before his 75th birthday. She helped take care of him in the six years he was sick.
“He had a stroke,” she said. “It went downhill from there.”
Davis’ mother, Theresa McLaurin, told her that she should consider caring for others the way she cared for her father. Davis went to Fayetteville Technical Community College to learn how to be a nursing assistant.
