More cash transfers to help the needy 09 Feb 2021 / 19:30 H.
DURING this difficult time, people are doing their best to make ends meet while trying to save for a rainy day.
Unfortunately, the current economic environment, which is influenced by supply and demand, such as rising food prices, is not helping to ease their burden.
One way to go about this in the near term is for government to provide additional cash assistance.
A survey conducted by the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER) in the fourth quarter of last year (4Q’20) and reported in a daily, shows that around 65% of respondents expressed their worries over expectations of inflationary pressures, especially among rural folk.

Singapore There has been much negative reaction to a question posed on Monday (Jan 4) by former Workers’ Party (WP) election candidate Bernard Chen Jiaxi on the treatment of parliamentary questions, after Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin took to Facebook to explain the process and to remark that Mr Chen was trying to make an insinuation about it.
One of the harshest critics of Mr Chen has been former Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) Calvin Cheng.
Mr Chen was the WP candidate in MacPherson Single-Member Constituency in the 2015 General Election. He lost to the People’s Action Party’s Tin Pei Ling in a three-cornered fight in that GE. He has since thanked the Speaker for the clarification and apologised to the MPs concerned. He has also said that he is no longer in politics.

Singapore It’s the time of the year for panettone! Workers’ Party leader Pritam Singh has shared that a resident from his Eunos ward of Aljunied GRC dropped-off the sweet bread for the volunteer team at a Meet-the-People Session (MPS).
In a Facebook post on Monday (Dec 21), Mr Singh said: “Until Jamus Lim introduced panettone into the political lexicon of Singapore on 11 Nov 2020, I, like a fair few Singaporeans I hazard, had no idea what it was.”
In November, Associate Professor Jamus Lim had introduced it to Singaporeans by way of a Facebook post. He said that one of the seasonal treats his family enjoyed was when panettone an Italian sweet bread enjoyed during Christmas and the New Year, and commonly found across Latin America became available.
