WT student performers, designers honored with annual Branding Iron Theatre Awards

CANYON Their shows may have been staged virtually, but the accolades were handed out in person at the West Texas A&M University theater department’s annual Branding Iron Theatre Awards.
Theater students celebrated the end of a challenging academic year with a May 1 outdoor gathering on the south lawn of the Old Education Building. Awards recognized cast and crew of three of the department’s productions, in addition to general special achievement awards.
“This has been an unprecedented year, and our students have more than met the challenge,” said Callie Hisek, the Royal R. Through Amarillo Little Theatre’s (ALT) upcoming production of “Little Women,” Kendall Carnahan believes it is the perfect time for members of the Amarillo community to be exposed to the adaptation’s message of individuality and empowering people, especially women, to follow their dreams.
“The story of Little Women definitely empowers women and gives women a voice, especially back when this was written, you didn’t really hear about the women’s side, about the things that women had to struggle against,” she said. “I think even in today’s society, with all the crazy things that are happening, this play truly speaks to how strong women are and how much they persevere and how much they have had to push, how much they have had to fight for their rights.”
