12-year-old injured in fall from bicycle

A 12-year-old child reportedly suffered major head trauma when he fell off his bike near Lompoc on Monday.
It happened at about 3:45 p.m. in the area of Burton Mesa Rd. and Calle Quarta in Mission Hills.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the child was not wearing a helmet when he fell and suffered significant head injuries.
He was taken by ground ambulance to Lompoc Valley Medical Center and then flown by helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

“Basically, what it is is nobody in Mission Hills wants this project. You’re a hated man. When your name comes up in Mission Hills, I can just see fire in people’s eyes,” said one man who did not provide him name.
Resident Joy Hoover asked a series of questions, including transportation plans for residents since Rucker Road has no sidewalks. That poses dangers to pedestrians, she added.
“Why is this facility so large? With that many residents coming into our small community, it kind of feels like we’re being overrun,” she said. “I’m just not sure if you have a reason for making this so large that it’s going to have such a large impact on our community.”
