them helping save the lives of other people. i think that is so, so important. i don t want that to get lost in all of the other details of this investigation. so when you wrote your book mass shooting: six steps to survival, john, and you heard some of the steps individuals were taking to survive this mass shooting, what stood out to you on that front? i heard witnesses say they heard the shots and instead of just dismissing it like we ve heard in the past, they actually drove away from the scene. they grabbed their children, they put them in a car. they found cover behind vehicles or behind barriers. and as we said, some of the employees, they sheltered witnesses. they brought them inside. they locked the doors. and they tried calming them down. this is as important as sheltering them, to let them know, if you need to use a phone, here s a phone, call somebody, let them know we re okay. and they didn t panic. they went about it in a manner that saves lives.
we were able to corroborate with his employer that he was in the philadelphia area at the time. reporter: and rob dixon s cell phone connected to a tower in pennsylvania the night paige disappeared. and three days later when he left this message on paige s phone. paige, if you get this, please, please, call somebody. i love you. please, please, please, let us know you re okay. reporter: still, there were caveats to dixon and beigler s alibis. that doesn t eliminate them as far as having some involvement and maybe paying somebody. reporter: then there was the list of clients, coralluzzo at the top of it given he didn t have a solid alibi and skipped town right after her disappearance. coralluzzo was the one that was most concerning. reporter: not to mention corralluzzo s friend jose tavera the one with the big burn on his arm. i said well, i said, i burned myself at work. reporter: who swore he did not help corralluzzo by setting fire to paige s car.
at 4:30 p.m. eastern time the staff of the house judiciary committee got a call somebody would be bringing a letter from the attorney general. i m sure they all immediately guessed what that letter was. a justice department staffer or messenger of some kind, all we know she was wearing a north face jacket, she brought, in fact, two letters to the committee in two separate manila envelopes because that was one letter for the democratic chairman and republican ranking member of the committee. the chairman of the judiciary committee was at his new york office, not in d.c. so the committee staff quickly made a digital copy and got the letter to him that way. we know those details thanks to a judiciary committee
