Pakistani cinematographer and documentary maker Asad Faruqi has made his country proud as his short documentary
Call Center Blues has been nominated for Oscars 2021.
Earlier, Faruqi won an Emmy Award for the documentary
Armed in Faith in the best political and government news and documentary category in 2018.
He has also shot Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Academy and Emmy awards-winning documentary films,

Pakistani cinematographer Asad Faruqi s Call Center Blues, a short documentary by Multitude Films, has been shortlisted for Oscars. Geeta Gandbhir directed the documentary. It examines the lives of four characters deported from the US. They are linked only by the fact of their deportation and that call center work is their only way to earn a living. Tijuana, the city they live in, is a Mexican border town and has an atmosphere of transience, which no one truly calls home. “These characters paint a picture of love, loss and longing - for home, for an American Dream deferred, and for justice,” the South by Southwest Conference says on its website. Faruqi won an Emmy Award for.

Early 2020 was an exciting entertainment awards season with the Golden Globes kicking things off on January 5th; then came the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTA) on January 9th; The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Jan 19th; The 62nd Grammy Awards on January 26th; and ultimately, the awards season big finale: The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony on February 9th. Things were certainly good in the ‘Wood back then, but what we didn’t know at the time is that the 2020 Oscars would be one of the country’s last major entertainment events before lockdown began.
