The committee will come to order. Good morning to everyone and without objection, the chair is authorized to declare a recess of the committee at any time. With that, i will now recognize myself for my Opening Statement. I am honored to be convening todays hearing. My very first as chairwoman. As we continue to mourn the loss of our dear friend and colleague, chairman elijah cummings. And as i sit here today in his chair, i am mindful of his Lifelong Mission to seek not only Common Ground but higher ground. With that in mind, i am very pleased to hold todays hearing on an issue we have been fighting for, for many years. The need for comprehensive paid, family, and medical leave. It is an important its important for people to understand the Current Situation in our country. Right now, we are one of only two nations in the world that does not provide our workers with any form of paid family or medical leave. The United States and papua new guinea. I remember when i was pregnant with my f
Test. Test. Test. A checkpoin we increase the population in this world is through childbirth and that there is a need for a woman to be able to take time off and, god help her if she has a child who is sick. And so after the birth of the killed continuously having to care for that child, that could be the father, the mother, a samesex couple, all of the issues that goes with caring with a sick child, we as a sophisticated, major force of democracy in this world should not be one of the last to say that every person working and trying to provide for the family, regardless of their income, do not have access to paid family leave. I want to ask a question, how many workers across the country currently have access to paid family or medical leave benefits. 19 of workers have access to paid family leave. And how current is that . That is from march of this year. March of this year, the big, amazing fix all pay cut happened, did that did that have a major increase on providing this benefit to

I would like to thank staff who have visited Treasure Island at various times this year. To meet and do outreach to residents and stakeholders. They did a great presentation. As always, i encourage my colleagues to visit the island and get a feel for how it is being transformed. That is the end of my cherry part. Is there any Public Comments on the report . Seeing then. We please call the next item. Item three, executive directors report. Thank you. I just wanted to build upon earlier reference i mad
Treasure island, i understand you have an exemption for the residence. On an island that has one access point to toll businesses, or anyone on Treasure Island is unacceptable. These businesses, vendors, will not go to their businesses if they are having to pay tolls. The businesses have employees who cannot pay tolls. These businesses will not be able to get employees to work for them. The businesses should not have to pay tolls to have people work for them. This whole idea for businesses is simply unworkable, unsustainable, and it needs to be dropped completely in my humble opinion. Treasure island as he have a supermarket. They need these businesses. They need them to stay there, and they need them to be continued there. I urge you not to toll businesses. Because one of my research on this, i cannot see any reason why the developer whose idea it was to redevelop the island, cant pay for these tolls . The residents wont even be able to use the infrastructure they are going to build if
