Peaks for PEAK fundraiser: Hike you would take anyway can fund extracurricular scholarships for kids

As Lindsey Haring signed her kids up for the SLO Youth Baseball league this February, all she could think about was how desperately they needed to get outside and see their friends. After nearly a year of being holed up at home together amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Haring s children second and fourth graders at C. L. Smith Elementary School returned to their classrooms this month for limited in-person instruction. Haring said she could see the difference in her second grader almost immediately. Virtual learning isn t easy for younger kids, she said, and his whole attitude brightened after just a few days of in-person class.

DA's office hosting online presentations for Human Trafficking Awareness Month

–January 2021 is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and to assist the community to learn more about this tragic criminal enterprise, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office and Cal Poly’s California Cybersecurity Institute have teamed up to offer free online presentations to the community on Jan. 19 & 20 from 11 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. each day. These presentations will bring a variety of local experts together to offer information on human trafficking as well as resources for victims and survivors. “Human Trafficking is modern-day slavery right here and we must do everything we can to eliminate it from our community,” said Dan Dow, District Attorney. “Our SLO County Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force is making a significant impact in reducing the occurrence in our county and I am grateful for the great partnerships we have. Please join our virtual forum to learn more.”
