FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Democrats around the state, including Fresno City Councilmember Nelson Esparza, believed some of the rioters who stormed the US Capitol last week are also focused on California.
Esparza said, Some of the same folks who participated in this un-American assault on democracy are the same folks behind the effort to recall Governor Newsom right here in California.
The state Democratic Party believed a group funding the recall, the California Patriot Coalition, was directly linked to extremists involved in the violent insurrection in DC.

We often say about Democrats, “All they had to do was not be crazy.” Even though the effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom has gained traction over the last month, organizers are still lacking about 500,000 signatures before a mid-March deadline, and Newsom still (publicly) enjoys decent job approval ratings. Why would California Democratic Party officials suddenly call a press conference labeled “Defend Against the California Coup,” complete with its own hashtag?
Veteran Politico California writer Jeremy White says it best:
This press conference does not happen unless @GavinNewsom is seriously worried about the recall effort
And it happened, all right.
