Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Truman State softball team was in a must-win situation. They had just been swept in a pair of doubleheaders against Lewis and Indianapolis, the top two teams in the GLVC, and had been knocked out of a GLVC Tournament spot with a 9-13 conference record.
The Truman State softball team continued its strong conference season by winning three out of four weekend games at home. The Bulldogs split a doubleheader against Rockhurst on Saturday and then swept a doubleheader against William Jewell the next day. Truman is now 9-5 in conference play and in fourth place in the GLVC.
Russellville senior Cali Coombs was one of 50 players selected to the all-region softball team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Coombs, the Lady Indians’ center fielder, was one of three outfielders to make the Region I all-region first team. The region consisted of players from Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska, which all play fall softball.
Russellville senior Cali Coombs had the biggest of smiles as she was rounding the bases Friday afternoon at Killian Softball Complex. After all, home runs in the Final Four don’t happen every day. Coombs’ three-run home run in the fourth inning helped lift the Lady Indians to an 11-4 victory against the Eugene Lady Eagles in the Class 2 third-place game.
