We are on scene and investigating a targeted fatal shooting that occurred in the community of Bankview late this afternoon.
Today, Saturday, May 22, 2021, at approximately 5:30 p.m., we were called to the 1800 block of 26 Avenue S.W., for multiple reports of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle, which was parked in the alley behind 26 Avenue S.W. The man was pronounced dead on scene.
Shortly after the shooting, police responded to a vehicle fire located in the 2200 31 Avenue S.W., that is believed to be related. According to witnesses, multiple suspects then entered a second vehicle, a blue, four-door car, possibly a Subaru Impreza or Legacy, and fled the scene.

Michael Elendu, wanted murder suspect
Homicide detectives are continuing to search for Michael Elendu, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the murder of Kyreese George Wright. We believe Elendu is still in the Calgary area, however he may have travelled to Winnipeg or British Columbia.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, we were called to a residence located in the 200 block of Panatella Court N.W., for reports of a man suffering from stab wounds. EMS attended the scene and located the male deceased.
The victim was later identified as Kyreese George Wright, 20, of Calgary.

Man wanted for Calgary murder may be in B.C.
The Calgary Police Service today reports it is searching for a man with a Canada-wide warrant for a Dec. 17, 2020 murder in the northwest of the city, who may have made his way into British Columbia.
“Homicide detectives are continuing to search for Michael Elendu, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the murder of Kyreese George WRIGHT. We believe ELENDU is still in the Calgary area, however he may have travelled to Winnipeg or British Columbia,” the police service stated in a media release.

UPDATE #1 - Calgary police officer killed in the line of duty
With the consent of his family, we are able to release the name of our member who was killed while on duty late yesterday.
Sgt. Andrew Harnett, 37, joined the Calgary Police Service 12 years ago, after serving as a military police officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 and was most recently assigned to District 5.
While working to keep our streets safe, Andrew was struck by a vehicle fleeing a traffic stop. Despite the heroic attempts by his colleagues and members of EMS, he died as a result of his injuries.
