A Calgary church already ticketed for violating COVID-19 restrictions is vowing to continue defying health regulations, partly in support of Edmonton-area worshippers whose pastor has been jailed.
Fairview Baptist Church, 230 78 Ave. S.E., held a pair of services Sunday that attracted numerous members as well as the attentions of city officials.

A Calgary church already ticketed for violating COVID-19 restrictions is vowing to continue defying health regulations, partly in support of Edmonton-area worshippers whose pastor has been jailed.
Fairview Baptist Church, 230 78 Ave. S.E., held a pair of services Sunday that attracted numerous members as well as the attentions of city officials.
CALGARY A total of 69 tickets have been handed out by the city for COVID-19 health infractions since Nov 24 22 of which have come since last week. The mandatory mask bylaw came into effect Aug. 1, and so far 67 tickets have been issued to people failing to wear a face covering while at indoor public locations. Six of those have been issued since Dec 23. Calgary police and bylaw have been patrolling city parks and popular skating areas such as Bowness Lagoon, where the capacity restriction has been limited from 2,100 to 600. “Due to safety concerns, face coverings or masks will now be a recommended when tying skates in bench areas or using fire pits, and remain a requirement when you cannot maintain two metres from anyone outside of your household, said Justin Brown, zone superintendentwith Calgary Parks.
CALGARY The City of Calgary is stepping up its enforcement of bylaws and public health orders. In an update sent to the media Thursday, the city announced that it has issued 40 violation tickets for failure to wear a face covering where required since the temporary COVID-19 face coverings bylaw came into effect Aug. 1. Of those tickets, eight have been issued in the last week. Additionally, one ticket has been issued for failure to display prescribed signage in an entryway of a public indoor space since the bylaw was introduced Aug. 1. 25 violation tickets have been issued under the Public Health Act (PHA) since a state of local emergency was declared on Nov. 25, 2020, 11 of those issued since Dec. 9. That includes two tickets issued to a church after evidence connected to a religious gathering was reviewed, along with an additional ticket for failure to display prescribed signage.
