Albany school district to push pause on tradition of police greeting students on first day

RAMBO Albany public school students will no longer be greeted by police officers on the first day of school after some students and their families expressed fear and anxiety because of the officers’ presence last week. Rumors circulating on social media prompted Melissa Goff, superintendent of Greater Albany Public Schools, to release a statement Wednesday addressing the district s decision to discontinue the tradition. Goff said the lack of officers assigned to campuses, often called school resource officers or SROs, is unrelated to the decision and was a result of shortfalls in Albany s city budget and staffing challenges in the Albany Police Department.

KAFF News Prescott Valley Man Arrested On Domestic Violence And Weapons Charges A Prescott Valley man has been arrested in connection with a domestic violence case. On Sunday, police responded to the one-thousand block of North Rusty Nail Drive due to a physical domestic violence incident in progress. When they arrived they learned the suspect, 22-year-old Caleb Rose, was still in the home with two victims. Officers learned that Rose had assaulted a family member, causing injuries and threatened the family member with a gun. The victims were able to escape while officers were on the scene. Officers located Rose and tried to take him into custody. He refused to comply and moved aggressively toward the officers. A police K9 assisted in taking Rose into custody. The victim was taken to Yavapai Regional Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Rose was treated and booked into the Yavapai County Jail on numerous charges connected with the incident.
