Men's Lacrosse gets first conference win against NJIT – The Statesman

SARA RUBERG/STATESMAN FILE The Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team finished strong against the NJIT Highlanders on Sunday, March 14 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. After an early deficit, the Seawolves poured on 10 unanswered goals to win 13-4 in a key bounce-back victory that snapped a three-game losing streak. The win was second-year head coach Anthony Gilardi’s first win against an America East opponent. All seemed to be going well at the start for the Seawolves (3-3, 1-1 AE), who had a two-goal advantage after fifth-year attackman Tom Haun and senior midfielder Mike McCannell scored the opening goals. However, NJIT (0-4, 0-2 AE) responded with three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead before exchanging goals with the Seawolves to tie the score 4-4 at the end of the first quarter.

Men's Lacrosse falls to No. 7 Syracuse 17-9 amid three-game slide – The Statesman

EMMA HARRIS/STATESMAN FILE The Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team fought valiantly in their first-ever matchup with the Syracuse Orange. But such efforts couldn’t beat the No. 7 ranked team in the nation, as the Seawolves lost 17-9 at the Carrier Dome amid a worrisome skid of losses. While certainly the underdog, Stony Brook played well enough early on to put their nationally televised audience on watch. Down 5-1 early in the second quarter, the Seawolves surged for three goals, led by graduate attackman Cory VanGinhoven’s pair of goals to bring the score back within one.  Unfortunately, Syracuse reminded everyone why they are No. 7 in the nation, and scored nine straight goals on the Seawolves to bury any hint of a comeback.

Battle-tested Men's Lacrosse ready to make the leap in Gilardi's second season – The Statesman

EMMA HARRIS/STATESMAN FILE The Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team made a strong albeit, nail-biting start to 2020. Amid an impressive 5-1 record, with four of those wins by one goal and two in overtime, the team took to the road for a game against the Bryant Bulldogs on Mar. 7, 2020. The 15-11 loss stung, but the Seawolves were prepared to rebound a week later back at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium against Hartford. The pandemic then ended the 2020 season and the stinging feeling of that loss was all the men’s lacrosse team felt for months as players wondered what the future held for them.

WLA: Recap of 2021 Entry Draft That Presented Unique Challenges

Tuesday February 16th, 2021 10:00am Isn’t everybody happy after draft day?  No matter how the previous season went, there’s always the drive to be better and teams usually come away from draft day with plenty of optimism and teams in the Western Lacrosse Association are no exception.  The 2021 entry draft was Thursday night and of course the oddity this year is that there was no 2020 season courtesy of the pandemic. There also was no BCJALL season, which left WLA teams leaning on 2019 statistics and perhaps a smattering of NCAA numbers for those playing college lacrosse. So yes, the WLA general managers had their work cut out out for them in trying to determine their draft boards for a 2021 season that still has plenty of uncertainty.
