In my view thats a military purpose. The lawmakers say the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School show that assault weapons need to be banned. A number of the police who came to newtown said to me we could not have stopped that shooter. Even with the body armor we were wearing with that kind of assault weapon. But Vice President biden downplayed the need for an asalts weapons ban thursday. He said those weapons are only used in a small percentage of crimes. Im much less concerned, quite frankly, about what youd call an assault weapon than i am about magazines and the number of rounds that can be held in a magazine. And even sponsors of the bill acknowledge an assaults weapons ban is a tough sell on capitol hill. We owe it to our constituents and our country to try. The nra calls the feinstein bill a wrongheaded approach and said gun bans dont work. Dianne feinstein and other democrats talked about the bill that names more than 150 firearms including semiautomatic rifles and pistols and would ban ammunition clips holding more than ten rounds. But feinstein says the bill would exempt more than 2,000 models of hunting and sporting weapons and would not affect weapons americans own for home protection. The nra responded saying they are confident congress will reject it and feinstein herself acknowledged the bill faces an uphill battle to win approval. One holeless man was rescued from the flood waters and another found dead and so far, neither is identified. A call came in for a report of a person missing from a tent community located on the next to the bridge. Units responded to the scene. Reporter dams controlling the flow of the river have been under increased stress since last nights storms. The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission had to open the floodgates to relieve the pressure on the dams that control the water level causing problems downstream in towns like laurel. The reservoirs are able to handle so much rain, but this was a little too much and so they had to relieve the pressure. They opened up the floodgates.
